I have recommended and installed for homeowners, apt dwellers, etc. It is DYI and is not only a great IOT platform but is very affordable. Some people may not want\need live remote guards watching over their residence 24\7 such as with http://bit.ly/deepsentinel Abode can be had for $200 and then upgraded as needed eg. on paydays. They are great peeps to work and will help build a system based on your needs\budget. I know a few snowbirds who pay them for 3-6 months of monitoring a yr. when they take off to Florida and self-monitor afterward. Personally, don't recommend doing it just because people were not meant to be always connected like robots. Some people have normal hobbies eg. collecting coins, stamps, random junk, etc? What do I do, track the quality of the power coming into Guru HQ of course?
The last 2 days with the spike in demand for power eg AC compressors, fan motors, etc. the boost on my rack UPS has been kicking on & off which correlates with energy draw on the grid. If you don't have at least basic surge protection put this in your carts. $30 for a good surge suppressor is alot cheaper than a new TV or computer!
If you have some extra cash then I would recommend going all out and purchasing a UPS instead which also offers protection from brownouts!
Just wanted to wish my Father, Grandfather, and everyone else a Happy Fathers Day! After reading about the incident from the local Plattsburgh Police Local 812 I would encourage everyone that has the means to consider downloading Noonlight and putting it on as many phones as possible.
It integrates with the Amazon & Google Home to serve a free alternative to Life Alert via the Safe Trek skill. Just a little extra piece of mind for anyone that wants it. Please Share http://bit.ly/smartisnowsafe
